Solving Low Water Pressure: A School Success Story

When schools face low water pressure issues, it can disrupt everything from classroom activities to basic hygiene facilities. In this blog post, we’ll explore how our work with a modern secondary school helped them overcame significant water pressure challenges through smart engineering solutions. We’ll look at the initial problems they faced, our technical approach to solving them, and the impressive results that transformed their water system performance.

The Challenge of Low Pressure

When a modern secondary school built in 2019 started experiencing significant water pressure issues, it highlighted how even new buildings can face critical infrastructure challenges. With water pressure at just 1.5 bar – well below optimal levels – and temperature variances exceeding safety specifications, immediate action was needed to ensure the school could operate effectively.

Low water pressure in schools isn’t just an inconvenience – it’s a serious operational issue that can impact everything from bathroom facilities to science labs. In this case, the inadequate 1.5 bar pressure was making it difficult to maintain consistent water supply throughout the building, while temperature variances were exceeding the 2-degree safety threshold.

The Engineering Solution

Our team at TEC developed a comprehensive solution centred around two key components: an 11,717L Cold Water Storage Tank (CWST) and a 2′ Twin Variable Speed Vertical Booster Pump Set. The installation required careful planning to work within the limited space available, showcasing how modern engineering solutions can be adapted to existing infrastructure constraints.

Impressive Results

The results speak for themselves – the new system more than doubled the water pressure to 3.5 bar across the entire school estate. Temperature variances were brought within the required 2-degree specification, ensuring consistent and reliable water supply throughout the facility. Most importantly, TEC completed this project within both budget and timeframe constraints, minimising disruption to school operations.

 Key Takeaways

This project demonstrates that water pressure issues, even in modern buildings, can be effectively resolved with the right engineering approach. The key is choosing a solution that not only addresses immediate pressure concerns but also ensures long-term reliability and efficiency. For schools facing similar challenges, this case study shows there’s no need to continue struggling with low water pressure when proven solutions are available.
