How TEC makes Health & Safety more than just a policy
Health and Safety go far beyond ticking boxes

"“Health and safety at TEC isn’t just about systems – it’s about culture.”"
Culture, Compliance, Innovation
At Total Environmental Compliance (TEC), Health and Safety isn’t just a “tick-the-box-and-move-on” exercise – it’s part of our culture, our operations and our reputation. Whether our people are on site with clients, in our offices or out on the road, safety is built into everything we do.
We operate in strict compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and maintain our ISO 45001:2018 accreditation. Add to that our SafeContractor, CHAS Elite and Constructionline Gold certifications, and it’s clear we’re not just meeting industry standards – we’re exceeding them. These accreditations keep us accountable and ensure our processes are constantly reviewed, updated and strengthened.
The man driving it forward
Since joining TEC in November 2024, Compliance & Safety Manager Chris Stanley has been at the helm of our health and safety strategy. Chris brings nearly a decade of experience in water hygiene, asbestos, and facilities management, plus a degree in Internet Computing – making him uniquely equipped to blend industry knowledge with tech innovation.
In just a few months, Chris has already made a big impact: securing LCA and ISO re-accreditations, rolling out EdApp for flexible, mobile-friendly training, and introducing fleet safety measures that have cut speeding incidents by 95%. His approach combines technology, clear communication, and practical systems to make compliance easier to manage and more effective in practice.
Training that’s non-negotiable
At TEC, safety isn’t just a priority—it’s non-negotiable. Every engineer must complete three critical mandatory training courses before even stepping onto a client site: Asbestos Awareness, Legionella Awareness, and COSHH. These aren’t one-time checkboxes—they’re refreshed annually to ensure our team stays sharp and compliant.
Beyond these, our induction programme includes seven additional mandatory courses, each designed to uphold TEC’s high standards and meet the diverse needs of our clients. These are renewed every three years to maintain consistency and excellence across the board:
• Manual Handling
• Safeguarding Adults
• Safeguarding Children
• Working Safely
• Working at Height
• Working in Confined Spaces
• Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
• Introduction to GDPR
This comprehensive training ensures our field staff are fully prepared, informed, and aligned with both TEC’s values and our clients’ expectations—before they ever set foot on site.
To keep it all on track, we use My Training Passport – a digital system that stores every engineer’s qualifications in one place. A quick scan of a QR code instantly confirms certifications during site visits, removing guesswork and avoiding compliance gaps. The card doesn’t just confirm training—it also displays DBS status when scanned, adding an extra layer of transparency and trust.
Smart tools for a safer workforce
We’ve invested in EdApp to make training more accessible, engaging and data-driven. It allows us to deliver bite-sized learning modules, track completion rates and gather valuable insight into how our teams are using equipment and following procedures.
That means we can celebrate great practice, address potential risks quickly and keep everyone working to the same high standard. But health and safety at TEC isn’t just about systems, it’s about culture. Weekly toolbox talks, whether on-site or online, keep safety front of mind. Annual (and sometimes unannounced) competency checks ensure that every engineer can demonstrate their ability to work safely and effectively at any time.
The bottom line
Health and safety are not a side project at TEC – they’re the foundation of everything we do. From investing in the right people and technology to embedding rigorous training and ongoing monitoring, we’re committed to protecting our colleagues, our clients and the public.
With leaders like Chris Stanley driving innovation and teams embracing a proactive approach to safety, TEC is not just meeting industry expectations – we’re setting new benchmarks.
