A true hero: TEC technician’s quick thinking saves a life
At Total Environmental Compliance (TEC), we’re proud of our team’s technical expertise and commitment to water safety. But sometimes, our colleagues demonstrate qualities that go far beyond their professional duties.
When every second counts
During a routine visit to a care centre in Southport, Peter Gallagher, one of our dedicated Water Hygiene Technicians, found himself in an extraordinary situation. While conducting his usual water safety duties, a resident in the main lounge suddenly collapsed from cardiac arrest.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Peter drew upon his First Aid qualification and immediately began performing CPR. For what must have felt like an eternity, he continued life-saving compressions until the emergency services arrived on scene.
First time, life-saving impact
“This was the first time Peter had ever needed to use his first aid training in a real-life emergency,” explains Christopher Stanley, TEC’s Compliance and Safety Manager. “His swift and decisive response quite literally made the difference between life and death. We are all so impressed by his courage and composure.”
What strikes us most about Peter’s actions is how naturally he responded. There was no hesitation, no panic, just professional training combined with genuine human compassion. After handing over care to the emergency responders, Peter quietly resumed his duties for the day, demonstrating the humble professionalism that defines our team.
The best news of all
Later that day, Peter received the news that made all the difference – the resident was recovering well. It’s impossible to overstate what this means, not just to the resident and their family, but to everyone who witnessed Peter’s life-saving actions.
Mark Drinkhill, TEC Managing Director, expressed what we’re all feeling: “We are all immensely proud of Peter’s actions. He went far beyond the call of duty and demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism. Peter is a true asset to our team – well done!”
Recognition for a hero
As a token of our appreciation and recognition, Mark presented Peter with a hamper. While no gift can truly express our gratitude for such heroic actions, we wanted Peter to know how much his courage and quick thinking mean to all of us at TEC.
Peter’s actions remind us that while we’re specialists in water hygiene and Legionella compliance, our team members are also caring individuals who make a real difference in their communities. The same attention to detail, preparedness, and professionalism that Peter brings to protecting water systems served him well in protecting human life.
This incident also highlights the importance of first aid training across all sectors. Peter’s qualification, originally obtained as part of his professional development, proved invaluable when it mattered most.
A true asset to our team
Peter Gallagher embodies the values that make TEC special – technical expertise, professional dedication and genuine care for others. His heroic actions show that being prepared for emergencies isn’t just about water safety protocols; it’s about being ready to help when lives are on the line.
Peter, from everyone at Total Environmental Compliance – thank you. You are a true hero, and we’re privileged to have you as part of our team.
