£4,300 raised for Dementia UK at Trekfest 2021
After the feeling of total elation, pride and relief, there were a few tired and achy bodies in the TEC and ECS offices, post Trekfest 2021.
Congratulations and a huge well done goes to the team of 11 who took part in the 25km and 50 km trek challenges to the summit of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, on 18th September. The team had waited over 18 months to take part in this event and it felt like they would never get a chance to head out of the start gates on Saturday.
The summit of Pen y Fan sits at 886 metres (2,907 ft) above sea-level and is south Wales’ highest peak.
The team joined hundreds of other walkers from across the UK and beyond to take on this tough challenge at the weekend.
Every single person on the team did exceptionally well to complete the challenge. A special mention must go to Callum Leech, Paul McLaughlin and David McLaughlin who finished the 50km trek in the dark, completing the distance, including two peaks, in just over 13 hours.
The team are really thrilled to have raised £4,300 for Dementia UK to help provide specialist dementia support for families through their Admiral Nurse service.
This condition often results in very challenging and difficult situations at home and in everyday life for people with dementia and families caring for someone that has it. Admiral Nurses, funded by Dementia UK, are there to help, providing invaluable and compassionate one-to-one support, along with guidance and practical solutions people need.
Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses are continually trained, developed, and supported by Dementia UK. The expert care and support provided to families mean that they have someone that truly understands the impact that the condition has. These nurses are a lifeline helping families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow.
Thank you so much to everyone one that sponsored the team. Great job for a very worthy charity.
Until the next time…
